Sounds like a driver problem. Open up Device Manager while the wireless devices are connected to the desktop and look for a question mark or exclamation mark next to the keyboard and mouse listings, or anywhere else. If so, you might be able to fix it with a driver update.

One USB port became “picky” and would only accept thumb drives, but wouldn’t take most other usb external hardware even though the 2 ports on the other side accepted everything. Something may be wrong with you USB port itself, maybe
