I have owned 3 omni instapot ovens and have never had a plastic smell, i would call the manufacturer and inquire with them. Possible defect?  Hope this helps!

no, I have no smell.  I did wash the trays with soap and dried them thoroughly.

Assuming all the plastic wrapping is removed, our oven made the "new" smell only once or twice in the beginning. After many uses in these first couple of months, it has been great.

I can say, it needs several inches of air space on all sides for ventilation. Takes up a lot of counter space, but it's still exactly what I wanted.
