This part must be plugged into a compatible mother board. You must first determine what mother board is in the PC he uses to game. If his mother board is compatible you’ll only part way there. Is the power supply compatible? Will the existing cooling solution be big enough? Your best bet is to visit a local computer repair shop that sells computers. Take them the computer and if they’re a reputable shop they’ll help you upgrade the computer. If it’s possible.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. In an existing system is possible but not likely for pre-built computers. If it was a custom built computer and your grandson had knowledge of PC building then yes very possible. However if he is just wanting this because its newer and stronger and thinks it will work with everything in his current computer he may be in for a big disappointment. I would check out his current specs of his computer and the Intel website and see if his motherboard is compatible with this processor first. If you are not sure how to do this, I am sure someone at best buy would be able to help you with that.
