The external speakers are controlled by the volume knob on the top of the turntable. The RCA output volume would be controlled by your stereo. By turning this knob down/off, you can use the RCA outputs exclusively with your stereo, without hearing the built in speakers. This knob is only for the speakers, and will not affect the USB output, or the RCA output.
