Yes, it is adjustable and rotates for vertical or horizontal mounting.

Looks to me like it would work in any vent. You can adjust the tension of the bent pinchers as tight as you need too. I love this holder , has worked well in all my cars

Yes. There are two parts: the brace and the phone holder. You slide on the brace either horizontal, or for you vertical, tighten the brace-screw to firmly hold the brace, and then screw on the phone holder portion. The brace has a lip that will "firm" itself to the plastic vents. How well it fights gravity over time to avoid sliding may require routine re-tightening. Hope this helps.

Don't know about your Volvo....but I own a C-70 and it fits beautifully.
