• Hello Sal, The robot cannot detect floor types or where carpets and area rugs are located. Some of our newer models like the Roomba Combo 10 MAX have this feature.

• No, this model keeps the mop in contact with the floor all the time and is quite simple, without much cleaning efficiency.
