• yes it can be run without the app but to get the most out of the s9+ you will have to use the app

• You need to download the app, on either a phone or computer. There, on either device, you can map your house, tell the Roomba where, how, and when to clean. Also, lots of help notes and how to order replacement parts.

• I think you need a device (phone/tablet/laptop) if you want to program it. You can let it zip around and it will map your rooms. Its convenient you can schedule when it vacuums. So it just does its thing. You can take it off of the charger and push the button, it will start working but i dont know how it maps the areas. It will work though
