The clip is charged via micro-USB as are the main earbuds. Actually, in order to charge the earbuds, you must attach the charging clip. The earbuds will be charged first and then the clip will be charged second. Think of the clip as both a USB adapter and external battery. The internal battery of the earbuds will always be used/charged first. You can get a total of 8 hours (probably more like 10 hours based on the reviews) of playback when leaving the charging clip plugged in. The first 4-5 hours will drain the charging clip (it will actually drain the battery for the earbuds but the charging clip will continually charge them as they are being used) and then the second 4-5 hours will drain the earbuds themselves. That means that you could theoretically charge the clip while using the earbuds and get even more playback (around 12-15 hours).

The charging clip doesn't necessarily get used first, but it does charge as you run from the clip, which anyone who has used a portable battery knows, this is not as efficient as having a bigger built in battery because you're losing energy with the transfer. The only way to tell when the clip is empty would be to watch your battery in the MySound companion app and notice when it is no longer charging, unless you're looking in a mirror the whole time to see when the light on the clip turns off. IMO the clip is better in concept than it is in reality.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The headphones are advertised for a maximum of eight hours, four hours on the device and four hours on the charging clip. You can use the charging clip as an external battery while still using the buds. I used them straight out of the box and the battery was at 45%, but died after a few hours of use. I believe after a full charge this will improve.
