• Yes, of course.. your phone or music system should be in 25'-30' range. Per my knowledge, these earphones will work only in pair mode and 25' to 30' distance.

• Bluetooth has limited range, so yes, you would have to have your phone with you. If you were at the gym you could leave your phone in your bag while you worked on different equipment.
