HDMI thru arc is always better. Plug your sources into bar and just one plug into arc of tv.,better sound, less likely to get voice sync issues and easier set up

Please try again later.The biggest difference is that HDMI can pass higher-resolution audio, including the formats found on most audio sources: Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio. These formats can't get transmitted across optical. In terms of simplicity, HDMI also passes video signals. If your audio source is going to transmit a 2160/60p, make sure you use HDMI cables.
