You can redeem on the website but you have to have a PS account set up to do so and then when you get the console you would log in with the ID/password you created. The DLC would be linked to your account and you can download as normal. Know that this is not a PS Plus membership but a PS account. Account is where you keep your stuff. Membership is when you get the perks/sales/freebies for your account. Just mentioning since you said you were new to PS.
