“According to description and the front panel pic it looks like this unit comes with a built-in microphone. My question: why an external mic is included with it? Is that secondary one optional? Is the built-in mic good enough for use for BT phone calls?”

• The specifications for the 850BT says it DOES have a built in mike. The user manual says the mike is external, possibly put it on the steering column. See user manual page 87. I'd ask an installer in person, to really be sure.
