Yes, you have to use the USB port, and, yes, that does defeat the purpose of it being advertised as Bluetooth compatible (for Apple CarPlay). However, it is still BT compatible w/o CarPlay. You can use BT, or you can use wired-Apple CarPlay. Both work well. Obviously, both have their advantages and drawbacks. Hope this helps...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It uses bluetooth to make phone calls. I just got mine so i haven't tried Spotify to play music over bluetooth yet. For GPS the phone has to be plugged in.
