• No. you don't need an extra battery. But you do need to get an amplifier to power it.

• Depends on what your system wattage is RMS as well as how old the car is and battery and charging system amperage. Ex. If you ran a 200W 4 channel and a 200W mono for the sub in a car from 1995 and newer you could get away with adding capacitors to clean up the noise and protect from voltage dips.
