I think apple made all its photos to be saved as HEIC. its by default. you need to get a HEIC to JPG converter online. you have a lot of freeware. its nothing to do with the device. its apple who made to use this extension. this saves lot more details than JPEG and used less space. so it makes sense for apple to use it.
