“I just noticed that the side interior walls of the compactor cabinet are cardboard? My last KitchenAid compactor had aluminum/metal like the rest of the unit making it possible and easy to clean. Why are they cardboard?”

Definitely cardboard and nothing under when lifted except the inner parts (electrical etc). This is 3rd KitchenAid compactor I’ve owned over the years and walls have always been aluminum. I looked online and indeed the cardboard side panel is a part. Really unbelievable.
