• It's not silent or whisper quiet, but isn't overly loud or obnoxious. It runs for 30 seconds and is done so something that doesn't last long or bother me. Love mine, highly recommend! Built in fan to remove odors, etc. well sets it above the others I looked at.

• Our 20+ year old JENN AIR made a real racket on the way down and even more retracting. I have not put a sound meter on our new one. Can definitely hear it, but it is much quieter. Does not scare the cat! So I would say, Yes, it is relatively quiet.
