“Mine came in a plain brown box? Seemed to be wrapped inside with form fitting Styrofoam, plastic protective corner pieces and wrapped with thick clear plastic(not shrink wrap). Just wondering if I received an open box or is this the norm?”

That is not the norm. Same thing happened to me and when we took it out of the wrapping, there was damage. Most likely it was repacked - whether a return or the original box was damaged. check it carefully before installing.
