By vent, I’m assuming you mean airgap fitting for the drain. Most plumbing codes do require this device, and it’s pretty easily installed, so long as your sink or counter top is drillable. Ours is not, so we routed the drain hose as high up as we could, attaching it to the underside of the counter before attaching to the drain connection. This is to prevent a blocked sink drain from backing up and contaminating the dishwasher.
