It is not too small, but I like to put more ice in a bowl in the freezer to have extra ice on hand if I ever need it for the ice chest. It takes about 12-24 hours to fill the bucket to capacity.

I won't avoid your question on the size of the ice maker. Yes, it's small. That is the biggest complaint on this unit when you search. I've been on the fence for the same reason. A Whirlpool engineer recommends getting separate container of ice started prior to any large gatherings.
