You need to rotate it until it locks in place otherwise it will not turn on. (may be a little hard to turn in the beginning). I had the same issue and i called the manufacturer who sent me a replacement chopper and i had to return the original one. Later i figured out that you need to rotate the bowl until it clicks in place and then it turns on.
