“When we switch from tv to DVD on our TV the sound bar automatically switches its source to something different but unfortunately the optical from the tv is the only item hooked up to the sound bar. How do we stop this?”

You need to consult your owners manual and hookup the HDMI configuration. The Klipsh bar has a connection and if your TV is fairly new it has a special HDMI output to the sound bar. Please read this in the manual
