“How would these compare to the previous generation r28f and r26f? Think these would kind of fit in between because of the bigger cabinet, different crossover, and different horn/tweeter design? I am torn based on sales of old ones vs this.”

Klipsch luckily has a rare business model where they strive to keep improving and developing their products while keeping things fairly priced, so you can't go wrong updating and because they improve with a break-in session and with time of use it's just up to you, but I'm very happy that I replaced my Missions with Klipsch.
