Can this be used on a front gate? null

No. It only works with deadbolt locks that have a handle you can turn. The Smart Lock fits over the lock handle that is already on your door, and turns it open and closed.

This is a normal deadbolt so as long as someone can’t reach through the gate to unlock it I don’t see why not? Although I would contact kwikset to see about it’s water resistance.
