You are correct. The attached, built in cable is thunderbolt, the other attaches via a USB-C cable on one end, to a class USB-A 3.0 on the other end.

However, the USB-A 3.0 is definitely very reliable and the connection I use most often when going to other computers because it is backward compatible and therefore a little more universally adaptable etc.
