• Yes, you can close your laptop and use a Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, and external monitor. I use mine this way daily. You will need to open your laptop to wake it up if your settings have your laptop sleep after inactivity. You may also need to purchase a Mini Display Port adapter for HDMI or VGA to connect to the dock for the monitor, depending on the connection type needed.

• I think this will accomplish what you are looking for. I have two laptops, right and left, below the monitors fixed to the side arms. Works like a charm with the configuration as shown in my image.
