There's only 2 options. It stays on until you turn it off or if you hit the bottom half of the on button it will shut down in an hour. It isn't a fan, it's a sound machine, so you can put it as close or as far away as you want. I've never gotten a headache from this sound machine. And it's very soothing. I wouldn't say it would increase blood pressure.

It doesn't need to be next to your bed. It Blends in and after a while you don't even realize it's there or running. I can't speak medically but I don't think it would raise blood pressure. I find myself calmer and sleeping much better and not even aware of the noise. I don't think it would cause headaches either. The on off switch is just a push down push up button. if you push the top side of the button you turn it on and off. if you push the bottom side of the button you set it for 60 minutes or off. There is no other choice for the timer. I leave mine running 24/7.
