Your maximum speeds from the SD card are going to be about 90 Mb/s read and write. However, the hard disk that comes with the system is actually going to hit about 100 Mb/s read/write. So an SD card is not going to serve as an alternative to an SSD. You can upgrade this system to an SSD, and it performs quite nicely when you do, but an SD card is not going to be an alternative.
