“Just purchased this laptop on line from Best Buy. It does not recognize the sd card. My HP desktop recognized it, using the laptop as backup for recordings.”

Its possible the card is not properly formatted. Might have to go into disk management and see if it requires formatting before Windows can recognize it as storage.

Sounds like there is a compatibility with the formatting used by the other computer. It could be a factor of the older operating system. You may need to transfer the contents from the SD card to a Flash Driver or other external or Cloud-based storage to transfer over to the new computer.
