I wholeheartedly recommend getting an SSD of the same size for around $120 and replace the built-in, slow drive. Most SSD's come with some software for cloning the old drive contents on to the new SSD. Ask a geek for help if you've never done this before. :)
The performance benefit of an SSD in a laptop is unreal. Boot time is measured in under 10 seconds.
Adding another 4GB memory stick also helps a lot with performance, especially if you have a lot of tabs open in your browser.
