You can view PDF files in Chrome OS, but it is not easy to edit them. There is a Chrome extension, Kami, which should allow you to read/write PDF files. This Chromebook has Google Docs, or you can download Google Docs for free from the Google App store to it. Microsoft Office 365 is available for download for Chrome OS, or you might be able to use the Web version and save your papers to the cloud. LibreOffice, a free word processor, may be available for download to Chrome, and should allow you to read/write PDF files. Hope this helps.

There is a 30-day trial of Microsoft Office 365 included as part of the Windows 10 operating system, which allows the creation and reading of P{DF files. In order to keep the program active after the trial period, you will need to purchase a product key. You will not need to download any additional software.
