You guessed correctly. We use the USB 2 ports on our computers (including this one) for the keyboards and/or mice, and reserve the USB 3 ports for external hard drives and flash drives. Some of our computers use Logitech Unifying devices and some don't. Regardless of the type of keyboard/mouse, USB 2 is certainly fast enough (can a human type faster than USB 2 transfer speed?)
