Hi, Asymptotic. The power button is on the right side of the computer when facing the screen. It's the first button, before the SD card reader slot.

Click on the Power icon (circle with a line on top; it's at the bottom of all your choices. Click on "Shut down." WAIT. Depending on how many programs you have open, and what they are doing, it takes a while. Some time it will prompt you with a message like "These programs are preventing the computer from shutting down." Click on "Shut down anyway." WAIT until it shuts down. If it doesn't after five minutes, you have a software problem that needs to be addressed. 2. You also posted a separate question about the Power button. I have posted a detailed answer why pressing that doesn't necessarily turn off the computer.
