“I am concerned that with a 4K ultra HD monitor applications whose content does not utilize this feature will appear differently on the screen. And what about videos, movies? It seems this technology has not caught on in the majority of applications.”

This system is backward compatible to lower resolution content. You will be able to view lower resolution content on this system without any issue.
