Yes, this system does have a eMMC solid state hard drive for storage, You can use a micro-SD card for additional storage, up to another 512GB. As far as installing programs on the SD Card, most programs have Copyright protection that won't allow you to store them on a removable drive.

Most software apps are designed to install and run from a fixed hard drive, and cannot be installed to a USB flash drive. A small number of apps can be installed on and run from a USB flash drive, but they're designed that way and you have to look for that feature specifically.
