- Answer I received mine a couple of weeks ago and it looked to be brand new. I haven't experienced any problems with it and would highly recommend it. I was skeptical at first with it being refurbished but ultimately got a $700 laptop for $500.

- Answer Yes. There are many 3rd party solutions that offer an SSD and a wrapper so it directly replaces the DVD. The 250Gb (around that size) is a sweet spot value for size and price in early 2014. BB has SSD drives, I do not know if they offer the wrapper to fit the optical bay. See Intel 530 Model: BBSSDSC240A4K5 SKU: 1780055

- Answer Lenovo. No. If it makes you nervous, get some type of warranty from BestBuy. They do good work, at least at the Hadley, MA location. To my knowledge, lenovo does not offer a warranty on this refurb. (Boo! Hiss!) I would love to be proved wrong and get one from them.

- Answer Of course a bottom mounting affects the sound, and not in a good way. If it is on a hard surface it can reflect back to you OK. This being a LAPTOP, it will often reflect off the soft fabric in your lap. (And a big "D'oh to Lenovo) I find decent ear buds or headphones are the best solution for laptop sound. Earbuds - read reviews before spending big bucks. Many reviews state there is little or no difference between the $10 and $80 buds. Or headphones. But get what you want.

- Answer Yes. The Lenovo one-touch backup very nicely restores it to the ORIGINAL as-shipped configuration. I also suggest burning some restore disks as soon as you can and occasionally create System Restore Points. (If you don't know what a System Restore point is, it is a good thing to search for and learn)

- Answer For the Lenovo P500 refurbished, it is 15 days. Best Buy sales person said that BB has a 15 day return policy on this refurb. BB offers a 90 warranty on "Certified" refurbs, but for some reason the Lenovo p500 is NOT certified. So, NO warranty. Lenovo offers NO warranty on their refurbs that I could find. Ask BB personnel if they will sell you a warranty.
