How's the laptop condition and warranty null

There seems to be some issue with the battery and overheating. I bought this same "refurbished" laptop on Amazon because for the price the specs are unbeatable, but the battery lasts only about 2 to 4 hours, and the bottom of the laptop gets EXTREMELY hot, to the point where having it on my lap becomes painful. Because it is "refurbished" there is no warranty, and you are left only with whatever the return policy is for the store.
