This "Flip to Turn On" feature is actually an option in a BIOS/UEFI menu. The default setting was "on". I turned it off and now it acts like a conventional laptop, where you use the power button to turn it on.

To disable the Flip To Open feature, open the Lenovo Vantage app > select "device settings" or the gear icon on the left tab, select the "Power" tab > look for the Flip To Open setting toggle and switch it to the off position. Also, some Windows 11 devices enable users to change what pressing the power button does in Settings (here's a link to learn more about this feature: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/shut-down-sleep-or-hibernate-your-pc-2941d165-7d0a-a5e8-c5ad-8c972e8e6eff).
