A:AnswerI would double check with your program and see what hardware requirements they have. Many engineering students use CAD programs that may require dedicated graphics.
A:AnswerTouch pad is smooth and works just fine. Fan noise is not bad but it does get louder when the GPU is running, also when playing a game it does get hot.
A:AnswerThe Thunderbolt port on this device is a 2 lane version. As to supporting an external GPU, that will depend on the requirements of the GPU. We recommend you check with the manufacturer of the eGPU for their requirements.
A:AnswerI don't think so. Lenovo's websites says it only makes UP TO 2GB for thr 1050 GPU. However that shouldn't really affect 3D rendering or video editing. It should only affect high graphics games, making them about only 2 to 4 fps less than with 4GB. So it shouldn't be a noticeable difference. Keep in mind the surface book woth performance base with the 965m only has 2GB of RAM for the GPU and it games very well in reviews. And it doesnt have the benefit of a quad core like this comouter, so this should be a little better gaming than surface book. Although if you game high graphics games a LOT then I recommend getting a laptop woth a 1060.
A:AnswerPersonally I use all of the same programs or at least most of the same programs that you mentioned and I can tell you with 100% certainty that the Lenovo Yogo does not have any issues. I cannot advise on the other laptops you mentioned because personally I do not have experience running the programs on those laptops.
A:AnswerLook elsewhere for another PC, this particular model that has the 4k screen has an issue where a black line appears across it. PC's repaired by lenovo for the same issue still continue to have the problem. I knew there had to be a catch for a pc with specs this good for a price that low. I just returned mine for this reason, I had the line.
