“I heard from a lot of people that there is an issue with the fan, being super loud even when its not running big tasks (CUP <30%). Is this true?”

Personally i haven't had huge issues with the fan. At certain times, the fan does ramp up and you can hear it, but it's not constant. It would turn on for a couple seconds and then quiet down and you can no longer notice it. If your fan is constantly loud, there might be an issue and you should take it back to BestBuy for them to inspect it.

In that link towards the top click on "Solved! see the solution" and it will take you to the main comment. I never had the issue where the fan is really loud, but with it running constantly it also affected the battery life. I followed the Lenovo expert advice that suggested updating the bios and switching to quiet mode. The fan got quieter but the laptop got unbearably hot at times, so I returned it for a brand new one. The new one is QUIET!!!!!!!! I didn't have to switch to quiet mode and the battery life is phenomenal now. If you get one with a fan issue, return it and exchange it for a brand new immediately.

We do not believe the fan is inordinately loud, given the power of the system. We recommend you try the system yourself. Either stop by a Best Buy store that has a display model for you to listen to, or order the product try it yourself. Best Buy has a 15 day return policy of any undamaged product with your receipt.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Not at all!!! On mine the fan rarely turns on at all. When it does, yes, it has two speeds: the low speed that sounds normal and it's pretty quiet. The high speed is definitely pretty loud (I guess that is where this fame came from), but it never bothered me because in two weeks turned on just once: when I downloaded a game, and just for a few seconds. Afterword, I have lowered my CpU to 99%, online I read that helps the fan to go on rarely, although I cannot tell if it was necessary or made any difference. Even if it keeps turning on in those situations it is fine for me, we are talking of rarities anyways! I personally was concerned about this issue, and found that I had nothig to worry about, my hears are totally satisfied ;-) On the other end, differently from all competition, this laptop is always cool, and you can actually put it on your lap!
