• In working a microwave, I think the best results for even heating of the contents is to allow the turntable to rotate in every case. This avoids the hazard of intense concentration of the microwave energy in a static location and voids of the heating where the energy may not be uniformly dispersed. Probably most important with regard to rotation is to be sure the contents are centered on the turntable.
