No, you need a soundbar that will fill the room with sound, and this one will do it. The soundbar is already the length of my 31'' TV, so it's plenty wide. This outputs enough sound for any TV, believe me. I actually have mine over the fireplace with the TV to the side, and I don't notice anything, it fits perfectly with whatever is running through it.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.TV width and soundbar size does not matter. A wider soundbar may give a better separation to the sound. I'm using this soundbar with a 32" tv and it is about 4" wider than the tv.
