I would say that depends on the level of climate control provided by the garage. In looking for refrigerators and freezers I have noticed that some units are labeled as "garage ready". As such, they are supposedly able to handle wide temp swings. I'm not sure if it's just a marketing ploy or not. May be worth some more research if your garage isn't well insulated.
