• Yes it is necessary but you don't have to buy it. It comes with everything you need to install the product and it's real easy.

• Like all air conditioners, the LG Portable AC w/ Dehumidifier Function and LCD Remote, Model # LP0818WNR has to be vented to the outside. It comes with an exhaust vent hose that has to be attached to a window vent panel which is part of the window installation kit so you can vent it to the outside. ^CP
