• It has a filter. You do have to scrap any food from your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, but you do not need to pre-wash them. I am very pleased with the way my dishes come out sparkling clean every time!

• No. A hard food disposal actually has teeth to grind up food, like a garbage disposal. This unit has a filter to trap food particles. It's up to you to check and clean it out occasionally.

• There is a filter which is removable to rinse off larger particles which it strains out. Supposed to check it monthly, easy to do.
