“One side of this refrigerator will stand out further than my cabinets, due to recessed desk area. Your specs show coated metal, stainless steel. My concern/question is what is color of surface on sides of this refrigerator. Hopefully gray or metal.”

Yes, the sides are gray. It is very nice. But it is deeper than most refrigerators.
