It depends on the type of work you are doing. if you are working with color it may not be as accurate as a retina display. But for anything else its great, it can assist with giving you additional workspace if your software requires it. The quality is excellent and the games that support the resolution is alot more enjoyable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It works on my 2012 MacBook Pro. It's flaky but it eventually works and no bars. I think anything mac 2015 and newer works flawlessly.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This monitor works fine with my Mid 2014 15" Macbook Pro Retina. I hooked it up as a secondary display using the HDMI port. I have a 4K Lenovo monitor connected to one of my Thunderbolt connections and the other is used by my Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter. I also connected it to my 2012 Mac mini. When I used the HDMI port I had to use SwitchResX to get the proper resolution. I then bought a miniDP 1.2 to HDMI 4K-capable cable and it worked without needing to use SwitchResX. Discussions I read said the 4K cable was required to get the proper resolution. Since the cost difference in cables was minimal I went with the recommendation.
