you have the option to have it turned off. This feature can be found by using the LG Sound Bar app. It gives you three different choices for your display.

It stays on. Due to the black material in front of the indicator, the light isn’t all that bright.

Stays on all the time, no way to ever turn it off. It may be a dealbreaker for some people.
