i can't tell if it is on null

Well when you turn it on white LED letters on the right side light up and the sound depends on the channel or input audio quality. That’s why sometimes you can’t hear the bass from the subwoofer. 420 watts I could definitely hear when it’s on specially during music, games and action movies

Mine says OPT to the right of center of long speaker. OPT ..meaning Optical cable hookup...may be Bluetooth, Optical or cable depending on how you hooked it to the set. Check if the TV used is set to sound bar, internal speakers, both sets or Bluetooth.
