• I couldn't get my late 2013 macbook pro 15 to work using 4k at all, based on what I could find, the intel specs for our macs can't drive 4k in OSX.

• Pretty sure that your MBP has a HDMI port. You should be able to get your MBP to work with this monitor without any adapters.
